One by one, as each recipient was announced, they received cheers of support from their family members as well as members from the school board and staff, including Peter Kudlak, the VBPS Superintendent and BHS Principal Stacey Buhro.

This evening's keynote speaker was Judge Brian Oakley, who talked to the students about the importance of being an honest, kind and trustworthy adult in today's society and continuing to give back to the community in which you serve.

We would like to thank the Cozadd Foundation for their generous support of our Scholarship funding and for making this very important program possible.

Rubber Duck Race Update

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! Due to the inclement weather, the Taste of Belleville has been cancelled and rescheduled for next Thursday, 8/24/17. However, due to gaming regulations, we are required to execute our Rotary event today!

Since it is too dangerous for us to put the ducks (and our humans) into the water tonight, we will be executing our backup plan, which is a traditional raffle drawing for the same prize winnings as the duck race would have paid out. You can be the BIG winner of: (1st prize: $1,000) (2nd prize: $250) (3rd prize: $100)

You can still get in on the action, as tickets are still available for purchase at the Higgerson & Neal Funeral home, located at 209 Main Street in downtown Belleville (734-697-9400). Tickets are $5.00/each or 5 for $20 and available until 5:45pm. Starting at 6:00pm, if there are any tickets left, you can get them at Horizon Park on the lake, until the drawing is officially held there, at 6:40pm tonight! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

MOTOWN SOUP

What an honor it was to have Dan and Margaret join us last night, from Motown Soup! This incredible organization was started by Dan and Margaret in 2004 and has since donated over $600,000 to organizations in need, within the Detroit metro area!

Motown Soup is based out of Utica, MI and is 100% volunteer supported. They create and distribute incredibly yummy dry food mixes that are sold via retail outlets/stores as well as craft shows and also through fundraisers. The resulting profits are then distributed to soup kitchens, homeless shelters food banks and free clinics. They operate out of a licensed kitchen within Trinity Lutheran Church, in Utica and they work tirelessly, every week, on Monday and Tuesday and one Saturday a month.

Currently, they offer about 30 different products in their line (They offer soups, dips and cookie recipes as well as 2 sizes of boxed gift sets) and many of the recipes come from friends, family members and customers whom they meet when they are out at craft shows and events! They're willing to try out any recipe sent/suggested, if they feel it can be converted well into a dry version that will store well and be easy and quick to prepare.

We were so very impressed with the mission of this duo and their love of people and giving back to the communities they live in.

For more information about Motown Soup, and/or to purchase their amazing products, please visit: https://www.motownsoup.com/

November is Rotary Foundation Month

You may have heard that The Rotary Foundation is celebrating its 100th birthday this year.  We are planning many celebrations commemorating the occasion throughout the year.  Our largest party is just a few weeks away, Thursday, November 10th, 2016, 6:00pm at the beautiful Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.  We are thrilled and honored that Rotary International President John Germ will be our very special guest during this gala event, which will be black-tie optional.

In the first phase of our efforts we sought “new” donations to The Rotary Foundation, to help build the Foundation’s future through bequests and for us to gain three-year pledges with annual gifts.  These gifts help us to plan ahead for dollars that will directly return here as District Grants in the coming years.  Rotary Foundation contributions are used to fund District and Global Grants, Vocational Training Teams (formerly GSE), Peace and Global Scholars and so much more.  We were extremely successful during this fundraising effort and exceeded our Million Dollar goal.  Thanks to many generous Rotarians, we can now open the MillionDollar Legacy Dinner celebration to any and all Rotarians, regardless of whether or not they have made contributions to The Rotary Foundation!

Invitations have been mailed to Club Presidents along with a club Group RSVP form, so that all members can attend!  Attached to this email you will find a copy of the invitation and an individual RSVP card if you would like to respond directly.

Carol shared details about the BHS New Tech program and how it helps to educate 10th and 11th grade students about the strategies involved in entrepreneurship. Rick Caron from Rotary Club of 1918 shares Tanzania project report

Thank you so much to Rick Caron for an amazing presentation tonight! Rick is a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor (1918) and a Professor at the University of Windsor. He shared with us the history of his adventures, along with his daughter, Julie, throughout Tanzania, as they brought clean drinking water and better health to children and families there! Many of these children have no parents, as they have died from disease. He shared many photos with us showing the polluted and contaminated waters and poor living conditions. He also showed us the amazing transformation that, in just 2 years, their work through Rotary was able to achieve! It was a very powerful and meaningful night and we are grateful for the dedication, time, love and effort put forth from everyone involved in the project! Seeing the children with smiling faces, looking healthy and happy was very moving. Your club, as well as the other participating clubs, should be so very proud!

Ms.Michigan Outstanding Teen, Vanessa Chambe

Posted by Susan Richardson

What a wonderful night we had this past week when we were honored to have the current reigning @Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen 2015 - Vanessa Chambe as our special guest!

This young woman is quite special. She has been involved in Girl Scouts most of her life, she promotes community service and volunteers within her community, wherever she can. She is about to begin her senior year as the senior class President. She is also a very talented tap dancer and loves bike riding. She was attracted to the program due to it's foundation being built on scholarships and service programs.

Vanessa told us that she credits the Miss America organization for helping her to improve her confidence and find a way to a career path (she will be majoring in communications when she starts college).

For now, she will continue to support the service missions of the organization and try to enjoy every minute of this amazing experience!

Little Free Library comes to Victory Park

story thumbnail

Today was a very special day in Belleville, MI! The Rotary Club of Belleville is very proud to announce the installation of our first "Little Free Library"! We held our installation ceremony on-site, at Victory Park, located at 5-points, in downtown Belleville. The library was placed on the grounds of the park gazebo that we are currently in the process of restoring. Gathered, were many members of our club, including our current President, Jeremy Richardson and Vice-President, Julie Hardy as well as our current District Governor, Liz Smith. This beautiful library was designed and crafted by one of our own members, Dr. John MacDermid.

Little Free Libraries help to support our mission of promoting literacy within our community by offering free books with a "take-a-book, leave-a-book" approach. Inside, you will find books for children and adults of all ages. If you live within the area please stop by and visit! And, if you have some time, grab a book, take a seat and enjoy a good read.

Please feel free to share this story and help us get the word out about this beautiful library!
